We the People of Detroit releases report on economic feasibility of water affordability programs in Michigan

We the People of Detroit, in collaboration with Freshwater Future and the National Wildlife Federation, is pleased to share the recently released report on the economic feasibility of implementing water affordability programs across the state of Michigan. This report, authored by Moonshot Missions, provides a summary analysis of six Michigan cities and the potential to implement water affordability programs without significantly impacting the water service provider.

Access to clean, safe, and affordable water is a high priority issue among Michiganders. Across the state, water rates have risen drastically and low-income households who are unable to afford their water face the threat of water shutoffs posing a major threat to public health. This practice can be ended with affordable water rates, and a healthy, sustained water service to all Michiganders can be created.
