Chicago, HUD settle environmental racism case brought by EJ groups

People for Community Recovery and Southeast Environmental Task Force, along with the entire EJ movement in Chicago, won a huge victory last month after filing a HUD civil rights complaint against the city, in which an investigation showed that the city discriminates against its residents by helping arrange for polluting businesses to move to low-income communities of color such as the Southeast Side sometimes from wealthier, heavily white communities including Lincoln Park. As part of a binding agreement with the Biden administration, the city pledged to reform its planning, zoning and land-use practices. Read more HERE
